Here is the tentative budget request for the summer:

There are a couple of "essay questions" on the back page for budget requests. See also our (apparently successful) previous answers.

Goals and Objectives

(Slightly out of order.)

Q. What are the important aspects to your program? How do your events tie-in to your constitution and programs?

A. Portland State Aerospace Society's (PSAS) goal is to launch amateur rockets. We build everything, from hardware to software to the rocket's airframe. PSAS meets every Wednesday to work on rocket projects.

Q. What programs are you running? What events are you holding?

A. PSAS holds an event every Wednesday in the Fourth Avenue Building. Students and industry professionals meet to work on rocketry projects. Our current hardware projects include a student-designed Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and electronics to send sensor data over the rocket's communication bus. The software team is working on bringing up Linux on our flight computer. The airframe team is currently designing the next generation airframe.

When we have a working rocket (or an airframe to test), the whole group travels to a launch site. Launches must take place in remote areas with FAA approval. We have launched from a site east of Bend, and we've also launched at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The Black Rock launches take place during a "rocketry weekend" arranged by Arizona High Power Rocketry Association (AHPRA) and eXperimental Rocketry Association of Arizona (XRAA). Groups from all over the country (and even international groups) come to launch rockets and exchange knowledge.

Q. How do your programs and events add to student life and student development?

A. PSAS provides an opportunity for engineering students to work on a real-world project. Students gain knowledge and technical skills that they might not get in the classroom. PSAS members get the chance to design electronics, write software, build airframes, and have a blast watching the final project launch.
